A recent Reuters investigation offers “a more nuanced portrait” of George Zimmerman, the killer of Trayvon Martin, than those which have dubbed him a bloodthirsty racist on a par with Emmett Till’s confessed killers, Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam. The article relies heavily on explanations of his pursue of the lanky 17 year old offered by a black neighbor in Sanford’s Retreat at Twin Lakes, who points emphatically at what she terms “the elephant in the room”: the brazen criminality of a disproportionate number of black males, including the “black boys [who had been] robbing houses in this neighborhood. |
